BELOW EXPECTATIONS

I did it. I weighed in this morning. My stomach was churning, literally, as I went to get on the scale. I even woke my husband up, announced I was going to weigh in and told him to hold my hand and prepare to comfort me, if needed.

I lost weight. So, that is good.

But I didn't lose as much weight as I thought I would, and that really bummed me out.

I won't lie, I expected to step on that scale and see some kind of Biggest Loser weight loss - double digits!! I mean, I do have 265 FREAKING LBS TO LOSE and double digits in my first week just seemed, well, a given. It wasn't.

In the end I lost 3.2 lbs. A respectable number for sure, but below my expectations.

I felt sad this morning - but more than anything I feel worried that this new PointsPlus program from Weight Watchers doesn't work as well as the old program. My mother in law, a Leader for Weight Watchers, assures me this is not the case. I am skeptical. But, I am not ready to give up and remain focused on taking things day by day.

DAY BY DAY. I have to keep saying it to myself. DAY BY DAY.

2/08/2012 - 426.8 - the first stone of the mountain moved (again). Here's hoping that I don't pack mule it back to the mountain as I have so many other times in the past.

  1. That is so awesome Connie! Way to go...3.2lbs is less then what you weighed in at the beginning, so you should be proud. I know with losing weigh you souldn't look at pounds though, it should be counted in inches lost. Think about it, there will be times you put on muscle...which means weight gain (good weight gain) and then there will be times that you lose double digits or just single. Just be happy with what you are doing and stay strong in your goals because there will be platues. Losing inches will be your best way of knowing if what your day to day is really working or not. Good luck and have fun with this. Cheering you on!!!

  2. Hi Connie, like you, I have struggled with my weight MY ENTIRE LIFE! I'm back to my heaviest and UNlike you, I cannot imagine posting my weight on the internet! I admire your courage.

My mom and I joined Weight Watchers this past Saturday, so I'm right there with you. My first weigh in after starting the PointsPlus program is this Saturday. I'm already nervous! It's such a battle every day. Planning, fighting "triggers", avoiding the fridge when I'm bored, tired, emotional, etc...My goal is to lose 95 pounds, but I'm going to focus on the short term milestones. So I'm headed toward the 5% goal at this point, (which if I told you how much that is, you, and everyone else will know my weight...hahaha) Well, I wish you the best...and will follow you along the way!

  3. Connie...you are amazing! I know you will achieve your goal because you want it so much! I will be cheering for you the entire time! If you ever need a walking companion, I would love to join you anytime!

  4. I use to love the show Biggest Loser...I've stopped watching the past few years though. I do feel like they give you an unrealistic expectation of what you will lose "at home". Those contestants are cutting calories AND working out about 6 hours a day! Not realistic in normal, everyday life. You should be very proud of losing 3.2 lbs. in the first week...that's great! : )

  6. Jenn, thank you so much for your words of encouragement! I know I need to be realistic about my weight loss. I keep telling myself that 2 or 3 lbs each week for a month is a lot of weight! It will add up and before I know it I will have shed my first 5% (408 lbs.). I can't wait to start gaining muscle! I haven't started a work out regimen yet - I was walking, but it didn't last. This week I am committed to getting that back on track!

  7. Hi Unknown (Although I know who you are!) - I am so glad to have you following my journey AND so glad that you are on your own journey to. We can help each other through it! We are sassy, spunky women and definitely need bodies that match our personality!

As far as posting my weight, I just decided - THE HELL WITH IT! It is no secret that I need to lose weight and I am SICK of giving that number power over me. SO, I took the power back - now I own that numbers A**!!

Good luck with your weigh in Saturday. Let me know how it goes!!! I know you will see results!

  8. Rachel, Thanks you so much for your words of encouragement! I am determined! Now, I have been determined many times before, but something feels different about this determination...I feel its a go! I may take you up on the walking. My hubs, bless his heart, doesn't love walking with me. BOO!

  9. Ernie, You are such a doll! I just read through a couple of posts on your blog (I plan to finish later today). You are BEAUTIFUL regardless of your weight. You have made great progress and I know you are going to kick this thing in the butt!

As far as Biggest Loser, i don't watch it any more. For me, the show feels wrong. These people are trying to change their lives and I hate that they turn that into a game. They have brought a lot of awareness to weight issues AND the fact that surgery IS NOT the only option, but I had the game playing and tactics. It doesn't sit right with me!

  10. Anna, Thank you so much! Its going to be a wild ride, but I am hoping it is more akin to a fun amusement park ride, rather than an out of control freight train!

  11. I agree...I hate that they vote people off! That's so stupid. They're there to lose weight to better themselves and someone gets voted off after one week?! I think they should all stay and whoever has the highest percentage of weight loss at the end of however many weeks it is, is the winner!
